Luke Summers Signs Deal With The Colorado Rockies
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Former Fontbonne University baseball hurler Luke Summers over the weekend got the call that he’d be signing with the Colorado Rockies.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Former Fontbonne University baseball hurler Luke Summers over the weekend got the call that he'd be signing with the Colorado Rockies.
Summers becomes the third player in program history to sign a professional deal. Ryan Bauer, was drafted by the San Diego Padres back in 1998, while Vinny Santarsiero signed a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016.
Summers, a St. Louis, Mo., native, made 48 starts in his career at Fontbonne. He went 28-13 overall, tossed 15 complete games, had a 2.62 ERA and struck out 378 batters. He's the all-time leader in strikeouts at Fontbonne and in the SLIAC, while his 28 wins are fourth best in the SLIAC.
In 2019, Summers was one of more of the dominant pitchers in the nation going 11-2 overall, allowing just seven earned runs, and striking out a single season record 127 batters. His 0.67 ERA is a Fontbonne and SLIAC single season record.
He's a three-time SLIAC All-Conference First Team honoree, been named to the D3baseball.com All-Region/All-American First Team, and the ABCA All-Region/All-American First Team. He's also the first player in history to win consecutive SLIAC Pitcher of the Year honors.
