Fontbonne STUNT Set To Begin Inaugural Competition Season

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Fontbonne University Athletics are excited to see the STUNT program get its inaugural competition season underway in 2022-23.

"Fontbonne STUNT has been in the works for years and I'm so grateful for all of Coach Johnson's work to make next year our first year in competition," said Vice President of Athletics Maria Buckel. "I look forward to welcoming the team and cheering the women on at games. The STUNT team will bring even more atmosphere to our events and our campus."

Buckel added, "The future is bright for this emerging sport and Fontbonne is thrilled to be a part of this growth and opportunities for those who want to compete."

STUNT, the fastest growing female sport in the country, removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps, and tumbling. These elements are put together in short routines that both teams must perform from head-to-head on the floor at the same time. With four quarters of play, it'll include partner stunts, pyramids & tosses, jumps & tumbling, and team routines.

"The team and I are beyond excited to begin our journey with one of the fastest growing female sports in the country," said head coach Ashley Johnson. "One of the biggest goals as a program has been to start STUNT here at Fontbonne and we are now seeing that unfold."

She continued, "Moving forward, we plan to provide the empowering home for dedicated female athletes and will continue to grow our program and skills each day. We are honored to be the first in Fontbonne history to take this step and look forward to building a great legacy for those to follow!"
